Doing its official debut in Amsterdam, LUMO gained a lot of traction from radio broadcasters and the press at IBC2018 after winning Radio World International Best of Show Award in the Radio Broadcast Solutions category!
As reported in the original article from Anne Morris in the IBC Daily (September 18, 2018):
Making its IBC debut this year is On-Hertz, which is showcasing a virtual radio studio solution called Lumo that is designed to help radio stations find new ways to reach their audiences.
On-Hertz was co-founded by software developer Renaud Schoonbroodt and Benjamin Lardinoit, a broadcast industry professional.
According to Schoonbroodt, Lumo – a software-based solution based on the latest commercial off-the-shelf hardware – is intended to be a complementary solution that can offer broadcasters “new and exciting ways of reaching their audience that would otherwise not be feasible.
“It provides an excellent alternative to solutions whose bulk and weight can make them difficult or impossible to deploy in every location from which a producer might want to broadcast – and, in comparison with those solutions, Lumo is also extremely budget-friendly.”
Lumo has already been used by Belgium’s public broadcaster VRT, where it enabled an outside broadcast by VRT Radio 2 in a hot air balloon. The broadcast fulfilled VRT’s goal of enhancing listener engagement with, and growing awareness of, VRT Radio 2.
Lardinoit said: “The challenges faced by VRT Radio 2 are challenges that are being faced by all media today. Creating sustainable differentiation from streaming music services has become imperative. Everyone is looking to find new ways of engaging the audience, keeping output fresh, and delivering new and exciting experiences just as VRT did – and creating brand loyalty.”
On-Hertz is also part of the VRT Sandbox initiative, which collaborates with inventors and creative entrepreneurial minds working at VRT as well as external organisations and companies working in media innovation. Selected companies receive the opportunity to scale and/or develop their products, with access to VRT’s infrastructure and technology ressources.
On-Hertz produces unique, innovative, highly affordable web-based radio studio solutions, providing a complete workflow on a local laptop/ tablet or in the cloud. The solution responds to the challenges faced by radio stations, enabling presenters to broadcast live from anywhere much more easily and efficiently, at lower cost – creating differentiation, increasing engagement and generating new revenue opportunities. On-Hertz’s virtual radio studio offers a complete feature set and absolute reliability, and transforms the economics of outside broadcast.
